Question
Hi,
My name is Melissa Workman and I am the mother of two little boys. I have been trying for the past year to introduce my 2 1/2 year old into print modeling... with the hopes of putting his earnings into a college savings account. Every one always tells me how good looking my boys are and I think my oldest may be a good candidate for print modeling. I've put him in several Sunburst pageants and he placed well. We live in southern Ga and I'm having a hard time finding an agency near here that takes children. Do you know of any agencies in northern Florida that represent small children? He's supposed to participate in the Beautiful faces of Ga pageant in February....

Answer
If you wait until your son is around six years of age, there are agencies in Georgia that represent models/talent of that age.
There are very few agencies at all in North Florida, as there is very little modeling/acting work to be able to support such a business.
You may have to look into the agencies down in the Orlando area, or even better, Miami.
If nothing else, you could contact a children's agency to see if they know of any other agencies who would represent children of your son's age, perhaps closer to you.
Amazing Kids, Inc.
300 Biscayne Boulevard Way, Miami, FL 33131
305-532-1118
I'm not sure if that listing is up-to-date, but they are a good kid's agency.
Perhaps one of the books written about child modeling would also have a listing of an agency who represents children close to your location.  Many of the child modeling books also contain an agency directory.
Good luck to you,
~Kitty

Expertise

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
