Question
Ok, so I really want to be an famous actress. I've always wanted to be on the Disney Channel since I was 8. I love to act and have been in all of my school's plays. The problem is, that I live in Delaware. Which means I am not close to any auditions. My parents don't want to fly me all the way out to California many times to try-out for auditions. Another problem; my mom doesn't really want me to be an actress at this age. She thinks I'll regret being in the spotlight a lot and not being able to live a "normal" life. I want to be an actress around my age. I'm 12 right now but it takes a while to get good roles so I really don't want to start as an adult. Please, please, tell me what to do! I won't take give up as an answer because I know this is what i was meant to do.

Answer
Hi Katie...Thanks for writing.

I have a few thoughts for you:
1.  There is another expert on this website that is familiar with Disney.  They would know how best to answer your questions about Disney.

2.  Regarding being famous, I want you to reconsider your reason for being an actress.  I understand your desire to be famous.  But very few people actually become famous.  I am not saying that you can't do it.  What I am saying is that as a reason that is going to keep you motivated over a long period of time, becoming famous will not be enough.  You need a better reason.  Something that is close to your heart.  Something that is not going to fade.  For e.g. because you believe that stories make a difference in people's lives.  Or because you believe that you have a story to tell.  Something personal.

3.  Being 12 years old is young to be traveling for Disney.   Some children have done it.  But being so young and being in shows is hard on a person your age. And your parents may not be able to afford that right now.

But being 12 is not too young to try out and be in plays and film opportunities.  That is what I would encourage you to do.  Get experience wherever you can near your home.  Study acting.

So I hope that helps you.  Let me know if you want to talk more.
