Question

Giraffe
I have this crazy idea that art can make money for our schools.  When I listen to the President talk I hear his call to service.  As a visual artist I would like to help by offering my work as an artist.  However there is still a small conundrum, he says that you should not do service if you expect to profit from it.

With that, are there jobs within the government for visual artist, becoming a goverment employee.  I am to old for the military, although I have service in.

I just think art can be used to make money for our schools and our children and have specific ideas on how that can be done, but have no idea where to start.  Can you help me?

Answer
Hello.........it is admirable that you want to connect art and helping the school financial picture.  I really don't know the ins and outs of government employment [out of my field].....but I do know that we [USA] still have VISTA...which is called "Americorps"......that might be a start in terms of finding out how you can help out.  Here is the website.

http://www.americorps.gov/about/programs/vista.asp

You can also take a long shot and send an email to the White House....and/or your local congressman/woman and share your idea.

Good luck!

CommentThank you, I just feel art is a gift, I not really trying to sell it, so why not give it away. If it puts a brand new box of crayons on every elementry school desk in America, that would be great, a pack of paper would be even better. I thank you for the road to start on. Take Care
