Expert: DJ Murphy - 3/3/2009

I have a Masters Degree in the fine arts. Many of my works have won awards in America. I live in New York City and have had a hard time finding an agent to help me sell my work.This past week I was on display at the Art Expo 2009.I have used a company called Art Excange to sell my art with poor results. Do you know of them? I hope you can help me find the best way to sell my art work. Thanks in advance. Jack

Hello.....

The best art agents I have met are the artists themselves.  There are publishers [plenty of them at ARTEXPO] but very few agents that represent emerging artists [knowing of course that even with awards and other exposure, an agent might still consider you "emerging".]

I have no experience with ArtExchange.  There are plenty of middlemen trying to ply their trade with artists. Most I believe are either well intentioned or scams.

If you do not read Art Calendar Magazine...I highly recommend it as a source of very good info for artists.  They have a website http://www.artcalendar.com/home.asp
