Question

Laughing Jezebel
I have been drawing my entire life.  I recently took up painting.  Some friends have told me to try selling what I have painted thus far.  I don't know what to make of that since I consider myself way way amateur.  But I was curious to know what an expert might think, of course.  I've attached one of my pics.  I mostly paint women - its all acrylic.  Thank you for your time.  P.S. - I am a nervous nelly as I even type this so please be kind.  HA HA!  Not that I think you won't be, but this is me taking a big step out of my comfort zone.  Thank you again.

Answer
Hello Roxy,

No need to be nervous.....as the saying goes "every trip of a thousand miles begins with a single step!"

Basically those that have creativity in their veins, start somewhere and if your friends think you have some market potential...then the next step is to make a go of it.

I like the style depicted in "Laughing Jesebel".......although the image isn't as clear via my computer as I am sure it is on the canvas.

Put together a portfolio of your new works.....and if you can make digital photo's of it, perhaps put it on a CD...and send it to a few galleries in your area.  Also check out this magazine "Art Calendar"....they have a website http://www.artcalendar.com/home.asp
It is an excellent source of info for artists.

All the best to you...

p.s. The difference between an amateur artist and a professional artist....is money.....not necessarily talent.

CommentThank you for the response! I was so nervous - only because I didn't know what to expect but you were VERY helpful, courteous and I did not feel like you were just being nice - even though you very much so were. I appreciate your time and help.
