Latin Folk Art
Mr Murphy; Thank you for offering your expertise to such a wonderful,informative website.
Not so long ago while replacing the hanger on a Latin/Hispanic style painting I got around the Panama City area of Florida I noticed this painting is on a skin or hide and not the brown paper I originally thought. I've always enjoyed the painting which is of a cock fight in a rural Hispanic setting,(see upload) and is approx.12" X 14.5". The hide, while not falling apart seems very dry and as if it would tear quite easily.
I'm thinking since this is on a skin and not paper it may be some more valuable and from a known artist. I've been afraid to take it out of it's mounting to look for ID marks. Would you share some thoughts or suggestions on this?

You're right it is a most interesting piece of art work.

Unfortunately I don't recognize the artist.....and can't even
recommend a source to you.  Depending on where you live, you
might check with a few galleries, or an art museuem in your area
and see if the curator can help you.
