Careers: Arts/The Best Way To Sell Art

Question
Hi DJ.  What would your advise be to a artist in training who would like to see a few paintings to generate some money to pay for new supplies and also to get some validation that the art is worth of being sold (people see it being worth spending money on)?

As the career progresses, what would be the best way to sell paintings?  Are there any large national or international retailers who buy rights to make prints and see them.  I understand that Kinkade had a similar model to sell his paintings.  I would like to spend the next few years developing my artistic skills, not expending brain cells trying to figure out marketing plans and business plans.  I would be so much nicer to be able to go to a art retailer and sell licensing rights to let them make prints of my works and get paid on that basis.

What kind of advice and information can you provide on this subject?

Thank you for your time and your help DJ.

Ash

Answer
Hello Ash,

Depending on where you live [large metro area, suburban, or rural...........your options for
getting exposure could be thru a gallery, self exhibition, eBay, Craigslist, etc.]

Check out Artcalendar.com which is a good publication for artists....and has lists "calls for artists"....

Art dealers/licensers.....are not to be found in this economic market.......but do check out Art Business Magazine to see who is selling, etc.

Try an outdoor art show or two [again depending on where you live].  Lot's of hard work, but will determine what steps you take next.

Best to you in your art career,
