Question
QUESTION: I want to learn how to draw and design but also learn the business side of fashion what should I major in ?

what would be my best and easiest option when choosing a major and minor ... I don't want to make my college experience more difficult than it has to be

ANSWER: Hello Lauren,

First, I just want to say that you shouldn't look into your college future and think of it as possibly "difficult." Your college experience will be exactly what you make of it: a combination of the classes you choose to take, the direction you take your study, and the amount of effort YOU choose to put into it. Embrace the hard work, and you just might get a fabulous experience out of it!

Now, what you choose as your major depends on what your career goals are. If you're interested in moving on past college and working in the fashion industry, I would suggest majoring in that. If not, I would suggest planning your major around what you really want to do. You can always take electives in other areas that you are interested in to give you a well rounded education. Also, if you're attending an art college, most offer required courses for all majors that cover the solid basics of drawing and design.

So, I suggest you sit down and figure out what you want for your future. That should give you a clearer picture of where to go.

If you need any additional advice, let me know! I will be more than happy to help.

College can be daunting, but it's the first level of education that you are in control of. So many possibilities open up. I hope it's a wonderful experience for you!

Good luck!
Gianina

QUESTION: First Let me say thank you
with that said I know what I want to do I just dont know the name of it and the name of the major ...it combines both the design and drawing aspect while teaching me marketing, accounting, and mangement do you by any chance know the name or a major and minor that I can take

Answer
Hello again Lauren!

Now, when you say that it combines design and drawing with marketing, accounting, and management...do you mean exclusively with fashion or design marketing/management in general?

Have you started to apply to colleges already? If so, looking at the course schedule descriptions of majors from target schools and talking to admissions counselors will help you choose the right school and course of study. I'm not as familiar with fashion majors, but as with most, the content can vary from school to school, so some may offer a more comprehensive study.

My alma mater, the Savannah College of Art and Design, offers a major in Design Management, but that's in general, not just pertaining to fashion. I'm sure some other schools might offer this degree as well.

Let me know any follow-up information and I can extend my answer!
All the best,
Gianina
