Question
Hi! My area of artistic expertise is in pencil drawing, and I want to be a professional artist selling my drawings, but some people have told me that, even though my artworks are very good in pencil, if the works are not painted, they usually aren't as popular or successful. From your experience in the art world, do you think I could be less successful if I draw my art? Thanks very much for your advice.

Answer
Hello Liz,

Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news....but your friends are correct...it is difficult to sell drawings in pencil.  You might be better suited for graphic design, illustrations, and character drawings.

This doesn't mean there isn't a market for your talents, but that it is a niche area and difficult to compete commercially.

Best wishes in your endeavors,
