Question
QUESTION: hi

I want to start my career as a designer.I would like to learn about the basics components  of  creating any design, which can be applicable to any object(crafts, fashion, furniture etc).

I am confused about which course to pursue.Because every where  there are different names, like interior designing, fashion designing, product designing etc,is there any course which can teach fundamental of designing?

or, do I have to choose  one specialization in order to learn the basics?

can CAD software help to create any kind of designing?

thank you

ANSWER: Hello Ananya,

The majority of all design school programs start out with classes in the basics of design to teach you about the fundamentals, color, drawing and similar. All programs will teach you this way, however, you will need to choose a specialization to go into as well. Furniture Design would be one program, fashion another, and interior design another. Find which aspect of design you love the most and look for a program in that. I'm not aware of a program that exists that teaches you about all design in one program. That would be a lot of information!

To answer your question, yes, you do need to specialize in one form of design or another to complete a program, but all programs should start with the basics, anyway.

CAD software can be used for design, but it is a program that is often used for the more technical aspects of design.

Hope this helps! Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Gianina

QUESTION: Hello madam

thank you very much.

I have decided to go for the interior designing.

my next question is ,If I wish to become a teacher,in the field of interior designing, what should I do?what degrees do I need to become an teacher in this field?

thank you

Answer
Hello again!

Are you in the United States or in another country? The information I am providing is for the U.S. and may differ for other locations. Here, a terminal art degree (meaning the highest degree you can earn) is a Master's Degree. First, you would have to get a Bachelor's degree in interior design or a related field, and then proceed and get a Master's Degree in interior design, or related art field. Once you have a Master's Degree you can teach at the college level without a problem.

Good luck with your education!
