Question
Hello Gianina Lopategui-
At my university in Art Class I must create a peice of art work such as a drawing, painting, sculpture, etc. I would like it to be one of these mediums and include my boyfriend and I somehow. Although I have no clue what to do. I was hoping you might have an idea for me. Sorry if this is not your area, I wasn't sure who to ask.
Thank you for your help,
Devon

Answer
Hi Devon,

I am not sure I can provide you with any ideas without having more specific information on the assignment. However, just handing you an idea might not be the best option anyways because you will want whatever piece you create to speak from and about you.

Basically, find some time to start a serious brainstorming session. Put music on that moves you. Bring out good ol' pencil and paper and start doodling what comes to mind. Bring out magazines, newspapers and books and assemble images and words that provide a feel for what you are going for. Research art pieces. If you come across something you like, remember it. For example, if I came across a Mondrian painting that I adored, I wouldn't blatantly copy it but may be inspired to do a modernistic painting with bold colors. If you want to include your boyfriend, ponder what meaning or message about him or about the two of you that you want to represent in this piece. Do you want to do a portrait? Then think about what kind of portrait or medium would suit his personality the best.

Hopefully, by giving your brain a chance to think freely, you will come across your idea naturally. Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to come up with a complicated, extravagant idea...simple works, too.

Best of luck and let me know if you need anything else!
-Gianina
