Question Hi Gianina,
Thanks for replying....well iv put some more thought into this project, i was thinking of doing a sound and smell installation....its going to look something like this...before to enter the room there is a notice on the wall that reads out the effects that deforestation has on animals and what may happen in the later years (forests would disappear). when you eneter the room it is empty and pitch black with nothing. there will be distinct sounds of animals dying and sounds of a chainsaw cutting through trees....and for the smell aspect ill have a piece of rotting meat hidden in the corner of the room to let out a stench..symbolizing the decay of the dying animals that have lost their homes. well...thats all i have for now...just want to hear want you think.....
Thanks again Gianina

Hi Gianina,
i wasn't too sure who to ask, but if you could help me that would be great. well i have an University art project that deals with increasing threats to the natural world caused by human (mis)managment of our environment. I have to 'adopt an issue' and produce an installation piece or performance which will be effective to young adults. i thought of de-forestation but i am not too sure of it, any ideas or tips would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Mandy :o)

Hello Mandy,
Are you looking for ideas or tips on what subject to use? Well, since the project has asked for you to "adopt an issue", my best suggestion is to find something that you actually have a belief or interest in already. Centering your project around an issue that you have thought about, been annoyed by, or had any kind of reaction to will make your piece that much more dynamic and fruitful. De-forestation is a wonderful topic with a real, well-known effect on today's environment. Whatever topic you choose, research it from top to bottom and find your angle. For example, what about de-forestation do you want to throw out to those who see your project? Do you want to emphasize the death of beautiful landscapes, the loss of habitat for animal species, the overuse of our natural resources...or maybe counteract it with a point of view from a logging company or the like, to help stir controversy? Finding your main point/theme/thesis - whatever you want to call it - will help focus your project. Whichever you choose, go gung ho! Let the details all point back to your message, and don't be afraid to be thought provoking. Think outside the box and let your project act as your voice, translating something you believe in about the world you live in to those around you.
Best of luck!
Sincerely,
Gianina
Answer Mandy,
I love the thought process you have put into this project! What a wonderful concept, and what a perfect way to grab people's attention! I'm sure this will be a memorable installation. I only caution that you don't frighten viewers (or listeners/smellers) so much that they completely miss the point. You definitely want it to be about the experience without it turning into a haunted house like venture. Good job! Best wishes that all goes smoothly and just as you want it!
Sincerely,
Gianina

Thank you VERY MUCH for the advice on insuring art! Very informative.
I can answer questions concerning most traditional mediums such as acrylics, watercolor, colored pencils, collage/cut paper, graphite, charcoal, and pen and ink. I also have strong, advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Powerpoint and Publisher; and beginner to immediate level knowledge in Illustrator, Freehand, After Effects, and Flash. In addition, I can cover miscellaneous subjects such as portfolio preparation, applying to art schools, art school study skills, color theory, basic design and drawing principles, basic animation techniques, working on personal art styles and exploring new artistic techniques. Topics such as the detailed legal aspects of art, web programming and Flash action scripting do not fall under my area of expertise.
