Hello John Burns,

Not knowing who the artist was who created the painting you have.....I can't suggest who to contact.  Assuming you have the artist's name, you could do a search on the internet.  Most appraisers of art use a data base of auctions of artists works to determine value.  If the artist in question had works which were auctioned then there is a bench mark for value.
