Subject: Is a Career in Finance right for me?

Question
QUESTION: I have graduated from high school and am enrolled in a junior college for no other reason then because i haven't been able to decide whether i really want to pursue a career in finance, my biggest motivation is the earnings potential, and the fact that the field does truly spark my interest, but i don't know if the right way to go and I'm not sure if it is still feasible because i went to a juco instead of a four year institution.

ANSWER: JERRY,

Based  on  your  briefing,

Since  there  is  so much  of uncertainties  in  your mind,

I  would  suggest  the  following

-take  an  aptitude  test

-this  would  confirm  your  current  thinking  or  show  the
most  appropriate  direction.
----------------------------------------------------------
I  understand  the  desire  to make  money - lots of  it.

But  the  career  path  must  be  laid  out  first.
Then  you must  work  on it.

It  is  a  wide  perception  that  finance career  helps
to  make  more    money.

BUT  THIS  IS  NOT  TRUE.

THERE  ARE  MANY  OTHERS   WHICH  CAN  OFFER
GOOD  MONEY,  PROVIDED  YOU HAVE  THE  APTITUDE,
PASSION  ABOUT  IT   AND  WILLING  TO   WORK  HARD.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A  DEGREE  IN   FINANCE  WOULD  PROVIDE  A  PATHWAY
FOR  MANY  JOB  POSITIONS  IN  THE  FINANCE FIELD,
BUT

-you must  be  strong  in  maths

-an  aptitude for  figure  work

-a  passion for  commerce

-an  analytical   approach
etc etc
-------------------------------------------------------------
A  DEGREE  IN  BUSINESS  CAN  HELP YOU

-a  caree  in  real  estate [ people make  good  money ]

-a  business  manager  for  CELE.  PERSONALITIES [ tv stars/ film stars/ sportspersons]

-a  job  in  sports marketing

-a  job  in  event  management

etc  etc.

SO  THERE  ARE  HUNDREDS  OF  JOB  OPPORTUNITIES  ARE THERE.
YOU HAVE  TO  PROVE, YOU   ARE  THE  BEST  FIT
WITH  YOUR  APTITUDE  AND  JOB  POSITIONING.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: i have a pending internship with wellington management, and i was aspiring to be a hedge fund manager, i have showed aptitude for this field, my question isn't whether i can do but should i, and or is it for me.

Answer
JERRY,

IF  YOU  HAVE  APTITUDE  AS  YOU  SAY,

-YOU   WANT  TO  DO  IT /  PASSION   ABOUT  IT,

THEN YOU  CAN  DO IT.

BUT  BETWEEN  YOUR  DESIRE   AND  THE  REAL  WORLD  OF  FUNCTIONING
IN  THE  FINANCIAL   WORLD,  THERE  WILL  BE  A  GAP.

THIS  GAP  WILL  VARY  WITH  THE   INDIVIDUALS.

THIS  GAP  WILL  HAVE  TO  BE  FILLED-IN      WITH

-further  studies  in   finance

-doing   an  MBA   in  finance.

-more  higher  level  of  training  in  finance.

AMONG  ALL FINANCIAL   SUBJECTS,

-hence  fund  management  is  the  most  difficult/ challenging one.

-here  you  hedge  other  people's  money   BASED   on  known/ unknown  variables.

-you  got  to be   sensitive   among  the  various  sectors.

ONCE  AGAIN,

-if  you  have  the aptitude,  take  the challenge
and  prepare  to  put  the  hard work.

GOOD  LUCK

REGARDS
LEO LINGHAM
