Question
I'm not sure if you are the person I should ask, however with the experts on careers being limited I hope you can help. Basically, I work for a fast food company I have been offered a store of my own at only 22 years old. However, I am afraid that "my" store being about 1/3 the volume in terms of sales is a dead end. I am afraid that if I take this slower store, that it will benefit me in the short run, experience, but not in the long run, getting offered a bigger better position. What I am hoping is that I can take this store and and gain some experience, and when the time comes take a larger more "exciting" store. My question is, should I take the store and gain the experience or should I wait for another opportunity to open up and get my dream store? P.S. I have worked for 8 years for the same company, my first and only job, and it is not like these jobs open up everyday.

Answer
I would definitely encourage you to take on the opportunity to take on the slow store.  This will definitely give you much experience to take on something bigger and with more potential in the future for your dream career.  Please do not be afraid, but to look at at is a way in which to get to know yourself better as you help your employees learn and grow.  Life is all about risks.  In fact, I took one as of Thursday last week due to getting promoted at the church I work at.  Now I am in full force and making a positive impact.  You can do the same at your location too.  Regardless, you will have my support every step of the way.  I think it is wonderful you have been with the company for 8 years.  I hope you find my answer helpful, and I wish you the best and a blessed Merry Christmas.
