Question
Good day Elizabeth,

I am currently working as an external auditor at a Big 4 company for the past 2 years and had a couple of job offers recently.

My long term career goal is to become a fund manager and I am currently pursuing my CFA degree. I have completed my ACCA and am in the midst of obtaining my CA.

I got a job offer to become an assistant manager in internal audit at a financial institution which later may open possibilities to branch out to Risk Management position.

My current mind set is to take the job offer till I complete my CFA exams than to hop over to a Fund Manager position. However my several managers and directors at my firms are in the view that I would garner more experience staying in my current job as an external auditor.

Which is the better option to become a fund manager? or does both open my way to my career goal?

I would encourage you to take that position that was offered to you because of the fact that you are one step closer to achieving your dram goals.  One day you will become a Fund Manager after you accomplish your schooling.  You will earn more by taking that risk because without it, you will remain where you are with not as much pay, which could hinder you in survival.  For example, I took risks to become where I am at now, and for that I am thankful because of doing it; consequently, I make more now than what I did in the past.  I'm thankful for the decisions I have made to become financially stable with my career, and I am confident you will do well in your chosen profession too.  Blessings.
