Questionwhat is your job can you tell me about your career and i want to know about biochemistry
AnswerTeresa,
My Academic training is in Organic Chemistry. I have a MS. During my career I have worked in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and medical device industries as a process development chemist amd analytical chemist. As I got older and more experienced I moved into a bunch of different management positions in Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Technical Service.
In my previous position I was Vice President of Operations and General Manager as Cambrex BioScience - Hopkinton. Where I was in charge of a large biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
Currently I am in the same position at MicroTest Laboratories (MTL). At MTL we test medical devices and drugs to make sure they meet manufacturer's specifications. We also manufacture drugs for different companies.
I think Biochemistry is a great field. I have many friends who studied biochemistry. It allows you to work in many of new and exciting areas of science such as BioPharmaceuticals (sometimes called biotech)or pharmaceuticals. It can also allow you to work in the work of toxicology (where you determine the effects of drugs on people/animals) or even forensics. It really combines the best of biology with the best of chemistry.
Hope this helps,
