Question
Hello,
My name is Emily, I am 17 and will be graduating high school this spring. I want to go into professional piloting and get an add on helicopter rating. I live in TX and really do not want to go to school out of state, do you know of any good schools in TX?

Answer
Hi,

As far as I know, there are two options in Texas for a bachelor's degree in aviation that includes flight:

Tarleton State College--this requires you to attend one of four junior college programs for the flight portion first.  These four options are:

Central Texas College Aviation Science Department

San Jacinto College Aeronautical Technology

Southwest Texas Junior College Aviation College

Texas State Technical College Flight School

The second option is Letourneau University in Longview, Texas.  This is a private school, so the tuition may be a bit higher than at Tarleton State.

I am not sure of the helicopter add ons available.  You will have to check with each school indvidually.  However, the Letourneau website showed all fixed wing aircraft and no helicopters in their fleet....but, on the other hand, very few university aviation programs offer helicopter add ons.

Good luck!
