QuestionHello, my names kyle and i hold a private pilot rating with approx. 70 hours logged. i am looking to attend Southern Illinois University for my junior and senior year for my aviation training to become an airline pilot. my first two years of college is at Elgin Community College to get the core classes done such as English, Math etc.. and i will be entering into SIU as a Commercial pilot. Is there a way to receive a scholarship for my tuition at SIU?
AnswerHi, Kyle:
You can certainly contact me directly at SIUC for this information and not go though AllExperts....
There are transfer student scholarships available through SIUC. They are based on your transfer GPA (which must be very high) and are more or less automatic upon your application to the university.
There are a couple of other sources for aviation scholarships, too:
1. There is a departmental scholarship for new students applying to the Aviation Management program, which is the program that I assume you will be applying to....contact the advisor, Rachel Lee, for information on that scholarship;
2. There are various scholarships available from the department once you arrive. Those are posted at the SIUC Aviation Website at www.aviation.siu.edu
3. Check the following websites for aviation scholarship information:
www.uaa.aero Which is the website of the University Aviation Association....Look for their COLLEGIATE AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP LISTING as well as individual scholarships listed on the site
www.avscholars.com This website has some good aviation financial aid and scholarship information
Best of luck to you and let me know how else I can assist.
Sincerely,
