Question
I currently work at Lockheed Martin on the F22 Raptor program, and I have a strong desire to move up to the next level, unfortunately I have been turned down due to not having a degree. I have more than the required experience but no degree. My experience has been 8 years in the USAF (Aircraft Structural Maintenance) on the B1 Bomber, C130, T38, and KC135, I also have Tech. Order rewrite experience and instructed on CNC tube bending machines. I have a total of 16 years in the aviation industry, but I really want to take my experience to the next level, I would like to step into the DCMA field or Quality. I am looking at enrolling into Embry Riddle, to obtain my Bachelors in Pro. Aeronautics. I was wondering if that particular field of study would help me. What would you suggest.
Thank you

Answer
Hi,

Thanks very much for your question, I will try to assist!

The bottom line in selecting a degree program for your use in advancement is to select one that:

1.  That offers coursework that is of interest to you;

2.  That offers you credit for some of your past work experience and training in aviation;

3.  That provides a complement to your current work with Lockheed Martin.

I have heard of the Bachelor's in Professional Aeronautics at Embry Riddle and have heard that it can offer some good things within the program.  What I would check out if I were you would be to ask about faculty qualifications (who teaches in the program and what backgrounds do they have to teach the courses that they teach?).  The faculty of the program are key to what you get out of it.  But, overall, I have heard good things about the Embry Riddle Bachelor's in Professional Aeronautics and, from what I have heard, it is likely to serve your needs well.

I wish you the very best in your aviation career.
