Question
Hello Mr.  Grant,
I had joined the navy in the hopes of becoming an air traffic controller. I did very well controlling in the service. However, I have a little bit of a problem. I was discharged from the military for alcohol rehablitation failure, and I had recently got a DWI. I am currently going through a rehabilitation program. With the completion of this program and further schooling at Embry Riddle, what are my chances of getting into the FAA? I was very good at  ATC. I can't see myself doing anything else. Do you have any advice for me to help the situation? Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Jaelin H.

Answer
HI Jaelin,
I am hot involved in the hiring process so I can honestly say that I have no idea if the FAA will hire you.  I know that you have to pass a security investigation and that, if hired, you are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.   I don't know where you live but I suggest that you contact the nearest Human Relations (HR) of the FAA and ask them.

Good luck.
