Question Hi,
I am a 23 year old student from Kenya and i recently completed my diploma in aircraft maintenance at a local college. However, due to lack of career opportunities i've decided to go back to school and i have enrolled for a degree in international business administration, reason being that,it is a safer option that may allow me to venture into other career fields apart from aviation. My main goal however is to go back into aviation at a managerial level.
Do you think this is a wise move, doing my IBA degree and then going for the masters in aviation management and moreso, will my IBA degree get me in aviation school for my masters?
Thanks
Answer Hi, Brian:
Thank you for your question, I will try to assist.
The key thing for you to consider is what you are most passionate about--that is, what field would you look forward to working in every day? If aviation is the field for you, then, you might want to consider going right into a master's degree in aviation. On the other hand, if international business is of great interest to you, then, stay where you are.
As far as options for aviation master's degrees (in non-engineering fields), the following institutions offer one or more such degrees:
(all are in the USA)
Daniel Webster University, Nashua, New Hampshire
Dowling College, New York
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida and Prescott, Arizona
Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida
Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Illinois
University of Nebraska Omaha, Nebraska
SE Oklahoma State University
One thing that you might consider is that, if you have already completed some coursework in IBA, you might ask each master's in aviation program that you apply to whether or not they will accept such coursework. Some programs will accept up to six semester hours of coursework from another master's program if they believe it is applicable to their program.
Best wishes to you in your career and degree choices,
