QUESTION: I am a fourth year student studying in India.I am doing my B.Tech in electronics and telecommunication, wanting to pursue my M.S in USA in the field of avionics.I have not worked on anything in this field so far,but I have a good electronics backround.I want to know how to clear my basics in avionics and work on projects before I finish my B.Tech.I checked out various universities in U.S but could not find what they are doing in this field. All the information is given under aeronautics.I can't find anyone to guide me as I am a novice to this. Please tell me how to proceed.

ANSWER: Hi Jatin,
For avionics degrees it is pretty much streight forward. Here is deal, if you interested to work as an avionics instller in repair man, you'll have to complete an A&P program and after that there is courses for specific field in avionics like Comm radios, NAv radios, GPS systems and so on. All those courses are based to give you general idea and precise idea how to troubleshoot and fix particular avionics box. In case that you are interested for design and engineering of avionics systems, in that case your electronics background is an fantastic asset because the majority of engineers that work on avioncs system design are electronics engineers with experience in avionics systems development and design.
