Careers: Flying & Aviation/Helicopter Pilot Career

Question
I am 17 and currently at college in England studying Sciences and Maths at A level. I am wanting to pursue a career as a Commercial Helicopter Pilot, I realise that there are different ways of doing this and would like to avoid joining the army if possible, money is a big issue as I have researched the cost of a PPL(H) and a CPL(H) which is considerable.
I would like to know of any University courses that would teach me to fly or enable me to get both of the licences - PPL(H) and CPL(H)- as that way I can get a student loan.
I dont mind going overseas and also wondered if there were any scholarships I could get. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Answer
HI, Emily:

Thanks for your question, I will try to assist!

First of all, I am only familiar with a few universities in the USA that offer helicopter flight training and they are:

University of North Dakota

Kansas State University-Salina

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University-Daytona Beach, Florida

Second, one university offers helicopter maintenance training:

Southern Illinois University Carbondale

Also, you might be interested in obtaining THE COLLEGIATE AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP LISTING from the University Aviation Association at www.uaa.aero   There are some scholarships listed that might apply to helicopter flight training.

Also, try this website:  www.avscholars.com  for more information on aviation-related financial aid and scholarships.

Best Wishes to you,
