Question
Mr. Grant

I am interested in any information you could provide me with concerning a career in air traffic control. I am currently attending college for a B.A. in Business Management, and am a private pilot with 200 hours TT and about to take my checkride for my instrument rating. I've always been interested in a career in air traffic control.
What are the general steps to becoming an air traffic controller and what will determine where I would be placed across the country? Do you have any say as to where you want to live and work?
Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Dear Seth,
About the only way I know of now to get is hired is through the CTI Program.  You can find out about it on the FAA  website.   http://www.faa.gov/careers/employment/jobinfo.htm

I'm not sure how it is handled now.  When they offer you a job they may have a choice of places to go.  Additionally you can always swap with someone to get near or where you want to be.

Good Luck.
