QuestionHello,
I am 30 and recently submitted an application in Hawaii for an ATC Trainee. I have no experience at all although I have been in the airline industry(Inflight) for the past 7 years. I have been doing research online about ATC careers and would like to know what is this AT-SAT (Air Traffic Selection and Training)test? When do you take it? How do you study for it? Is it harder for a person off the street to get hired? And last but not least, am I too old to try for the ATC trainee position? Thanks for your time.
AnswerHi Lei,
He ATSAT is a test that was developed to test the skills needed to be an air traffic controller. As far as I know you cannot study for it. Go to the FAA website WWW.FAA.GOV and under employment opportunities search using series 2152. After the bid has closed go back to the web site and see if you are eligible to take the ATSAT. I don't know anyone that has done this but this is what I was told needed to be done.
Former Air traffic and military controllers have the best chance of getting hired, but the FAA is presently hiring off the street and it is my understanding that they are using the ATSAT to hire.
You must be hired before your 31st birthday otherwise you would be too old
Good Luck.
