Careers: Flying & Aviation/Ground Crew responsibility in Airlines?
Expert: Ismar Avdic, Eng. - 12/23/2006
QuestionI am fresher and currently working for an Indian Airliner company as a part of the ground crew (for the last five days). The problem is that my airliner asks me to wait after my shift gets over if there is an delay in the taking off the flight. All the crew members who assisted in the boarding of the passengers of the delayed flight are asked to stay back till the flight takes off. I am not paid any additional salary for the extra time spent. I would like to know whether it is the same for all airliners in india. I would also like to know if there is any airlines which does not insist on the condition. Thank you in advance for your reply Sridhar.
AnswerHi Sridhar
In full honesty I do not know anything about conditions of ground workers in India. However, I can tell you one thing, in USA that is happening from time to time with delayed flights, BUT IF SOMEBODY ASK EMPLOYEE TO STAY LONGER, IT COUNTS AS OVERTIME (AND THAT IS PAID TWICE OF YOUR NORMALK SALARY). That is the main reason why companies are not asking employees to stay after their shifts because tehy will paid them twice then normal salary. I do not know anything about airliners in India.
Sorry
