Question
I have 2 questions for you about IFR.

1. If I lose communications on a trip and I continue on my IFR flight plan and am going into an airport with lets say an ILS. Do I do a procedure turn or do I just start the ILS right away.

2. When I am going into a airport, lets say baton rouge, on a victor airway and am talking to atc, will they give me instructions to get off the airway and will they line me up for the Ils or the Vor Approach, what will they do?

Answer
Hi Korey,
Question #1
In order for you to transition from the enroute segment to the approach segment you will have to follow your approach plates (exactly) or receive radar vectors.  It is expected by ATC that with lost communication that you will complete your flight following your clearance which will also include an approved approach procedure.  remember the airspace is reserved for you.

Question #2
ATC will provide vectors to assist you reaching your FAF.  If they want to clear you for the "full" approach they will inform you (you may also request it)
I hope this does it for ya.
Happy holidays,
Dave
