Question
Hi David
My name is Edik and I am currintly in High School.  I have been intersted in becoming a commercial pilot since I was 10 years old.  The question for you from me is, how will the major airlines be in couple years?  What I meen is that is nobody is hiring right now, and I was just wondering if you think the business will pick up and airlines start hiring like they did 10 years ago.  I have a mentor at school and he works for Amrican and he said that it will take a long time for Airlines to start hiring againi.  What do you think, please feel free to express yourself.
Thank you
Edik

Answer
Hello Edik,
I don't have a crystal ball but I sure can give you my opinion.  First off, we are in troubled times, financially, in this country.  I believe that it will be sometime before the airlines get on their feet.  You must also consider the pilot competition.  With all of the layoffs that are taking place there are many very experienced pilots competing for the same job.  On the other hand, aviation is here to stay.  Technology forges ahead and there will always be room for new people.  My advice to you, if an aviation career is something that you really want, do not hesitate for a second...Go fo it!  Just prepare wisely.  Attend a reputable aviation college and you should realize success.  (after you pay your dues of course)
Good luck and may the wind always be at your back,
Dave Bidwell
