Careers: Flying & Aviation/Master/Hobbs/Tach Meters

Question
I'm not a pilot, but curious about something I heard recently.  Someone mentioned that when a pilot prepares to take off and "sets" what I presume to be one of the meters listed above-- that 1/2 through the trip-- it will change from going "to" the location to "coming from."  In other words the distance or time remaining to the destination.  Can you please clarify.  I have no flight knowledge, but want to understand this concept.  Thank you!  Judi

I do have really hard time to pick up what do you trying to know but none of the above mentioned instruments Hobbs or Tach Meter are not designed to measure distance from your destination. They are instruments that measure hors on engine (Tach Meter) and time on aircraft (Hobbs meter).
