Question
Hi, I am a recent college graduate from the University of Memphis; and I am interested in possibly becoming an air traffic controller. I was just wondering what qualifications are needed because my degree is in exercise science and not related to this profession. Furthermore, I was also wondering if you might know of any opportunites in the Memphis area, because I read there may be some upcoming shortages, and if so how to go about applying for them.
                                       Thanks,
                                     Justin Lutz

Answer
Hi Justin,
Congratulations on your recent graduation.  In Memphis, there are two places that you can work and be an air traffic controller.  Memphis ARTCC (Center) or Memphis Tower.  I, too, have heard that the FAA is going to be hiring but I don't know when or how many.  I have heard that the FAA academy in OKC is about to start training controllers again.  I suggest that you check the FAA website at least weekly to keep yourself appraised of when the FAA actually starts hiring.  The website is:  http://www.faa.gov/careers/employment/jobinfo.htm

Good luck.
