Question
Hi,

I've always love to fly in an airplane to anywhere in the world.  Everytime I know I'm gonna travel by plane, I get very excited about it.  I love flying in a commercial airline, or any plane. I dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot and I want to know what are the requirements to becoming one, including any other requirements such as vision, hearing test, etc. And, what classes should I take?  Are there any specific classes I need to take? Do I need a Bachelor's Degree to become a pilot?  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  I just want to know all the requirements and know where to start.  I just finished high school in 2004, and I want to start working towards aviation.  Please respond to this ASAP.  Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Desmond,
I feel the same way about flying.  I guess most pilots do.  The road to commercial airline pilot requires various certificates and will look something like this:
1. private pilot certificate
2. instrument rating
3. commercial certificate
4. multi-engine rating
Also, experience is essential and ratings for the different types of aircraft (jets etc.)
A college degree is not necessary for any of the above, however, no airline will consider you without one.
The medical requirements vary according to the level of certification.

I suggest that you take a trip to your local airport and talk to the flight school there.
If you are looking to get a degree along with the flight training, I suggest that you look into an aviation university such as Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (www.erau.edu)

Good Luck,  If you need more info let me know.
