Question
Hello,
I'm 28 yrs. old and I just graduated with a bachelor degree in aviation science.  I have 1,150 hours total time and 113 hours of multi-engine time.  What is the quickest way for me to get an airline or equivelant job? I don't want to waiste time sending out a million resumes. I'm a flight instructor right now.  Which is the best employment placement service or do you think they're a waiste of money? I have no money for paid training.  What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Thanks for your response!

In the present job market, there is really no 'quickest route' to a job. Pilots are clamoring over each other for every available flying job. These days it is most often who you know that gets you hired. Since virtually no one is hiring, a placement service really isn't much help. Those few regional carriers that are doing limited interviewing are taking applicants with well over 2,000TT on average with 500+ ME. I think places like AEPS is a waste of money, unless maybe you have 5,000TT & some type ratings.

I was furloughed from American Eagle and have not been able to find employment elsewhere. There are just too many ATPs with lots of PIC experience that are applying for the same jobs. I know of 3 jet experienced United First Officers with type ratings that have gone back to a regional to stay in the cockpit.

If I were in your shoes I would keep instructing and try to get more ME time. Also, try to find any opportunities to fly 135 cargo or charter near you. That will pump up your resume. At least you have a CFI. I do not, and have not flown much at all since getting furloughed. There are many CFIs that can't even get an instructing gig, so you are not as bad off as some or even myself at this point. You are still flying every day!
