Long Island as well as NY has a lot of aviation opportunities. I do not know specifically the names of the flight clubs there, but I would suggest you to take a strol over the closest general aviation airports in near your vincinity. Take a careful look what they offer and especially check the pricing and any kind of programs if they have for students(I am assuming you are one) like yourself. Another good source is checking the internet and see what the closest flight schools and flight training facilities offers potential students. There is two way you can study for pilot licence either following Part 141 or Part 61 of Federal Aviation Regulations. I would suggest you to find an school with Part 141 Federal Aviation Regulation curiculum, because they are much more stuctured in training.
Some of the famous Flight Training facilities in USA are
Embry riddle Aeronautical Academy
Flight Safety
Westwind Academy
and so on, however those facilities are orienteted for students that are focusing to training pilots as airline pilots.
