Expert: Dacus T. Grant - 4/22/2007
QuestionHello, I recently have graduated from High School and I'am stuck in limbo if I want to continue my college education. After reading information provided by the FAA and many other websites I'am even more confused than I was before. It is unclear if you need a degree or not. I dont understand half of the information that is put out there. If you could offer any advice or help that would be greatly appreciated.
AnswerHi Camron,
Here is the link from the FAA website about Air traffic controller qualifications:
http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ahr/jobs_careers/occupa...
It says:
* Three years of progressively responsible work experience and/or
* A full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of work experience and college credits
* Certain kinds of aviation experience may be qualifying
* Applicants must be U.S. citizens
* Be able to speak English clearly enough to be understood over radios, intercoms, and similar communications equipment
* The maximum entry age is 30
If you are interested in being an Air Traffic Controller I suggest the you attend one of the CTI schools that teach air traffic control. The link for them is:
http://www.faa.gov/jobs/employment_information/special_hiring_programs/air_traff...
I hope this helps.
