Question
Hello Mr. Avdic:
I am 30 years old and am considering a career as an airline pilot.  I have a question concerning my eyesight.  My eyesight is correctable to 20/20, but I have "floaters" in my eyes.  My eye doctor says that these are completely normal and most people have them.  I personally don't notice them most of the time, unless i stare at a white wall or stare at the sky on a sunny day. Do airlines hire pilots with floaters?
I also have high cholesterol.  My doctor has told me to improve my diet, which i am working on.  My doctor stated that if my cholesterol does not go down, i might have to take medications.  Do airlines hire pilots who might have high cholesterol. Thank you.
Brandon

Answer
Hi Brendon!
I order to become and act as an airline pilot you have to pass Class 1 medical exam. For first class medical you will have to demonstrate that you are able so 20/20 orrected or uncorrected. As I know floaters in eyes are not problem. High cholesterol need to be corrected ASAP because that will lead to heart problems, but depending what kind of medications you are taking, that medications could be problem for obtaining first class of medical. Again not necessarily, but the best bet is to check with local aviation medical examiner, he will have list of approved or unapproved medications for your condition.

Good Luck
