Question
Hello David,

First I want to thank you for helping me out. I am a highschool senior and pursuing a college degree at Utah State University. My dream has always been flying, ever since i was little. My college offers aviation certifications and classes, the only thing stopping me is the questionable lifestyle being a pilot requires. My question is: do all aviation or piloting jobs require such demanding hours, and long periods of time away from family, (weeks or months)? A couple days are fine. If so what types are they?

Answer
Hi Dustin,
There are many flying jobs that do not require many days away from home.  One such job would be a corproate pilot.  These usually are only a few days at a time.  You could fly banners, instruct, or traffic reporting to name a few.  Maybe you would like to double careers such as fly for a police department.  The best paying jobs are usually the ones that will keep you away from home.  That's why they pay well.  I hope I was able to help.
Good Luck,
Dave Bidwell
