Question
Hi,
my name is Aggie and I am getting out of the navy in December of this year.  I want to be an air traffic controller but dont know if I have the requirements.  Do I have to have a degree or go through school for it?  I have 32 credits right now and am still working on my associates.  Does my military time count for anything when it comes to faa?  I read some on the website and it sais that prior experience with air traffic control is not a necessity, is that true?  Please let me know. Thank you,

Aggie

Answer
Hi Aggie,
The FAA website at http://www.faa.gov/careers/employment/jobinfo.htm details how new employees are hired.  There is a special program for hiring military controllers, you didn't say whether or not you were a military controller.  I don't believe that the FAA is doing any direct hiring at this time.  However, I have heard of job fairs in certain cities where they hire.  I don't know where or when these job fairs are, or even how to find them.  The only other way that I know of to get hired is through the CTI  program.  This is explained on the FAA website.  It is basically a college degree with a major or minor is Air traffic.

Wish that I could be of more help.
