Question
Hi myself Sachidanand. I have 3 years of experience in Information technology and i want to continue my studies through distant learning. I want to pursue LAW to be more specific Corporate law. Kindly advice on the opportunities and the value of such online law degree. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sachidanand,

If you wish to pursue a law degree, I would not recommend an online degree.  Online law degrees are often offered by less prestigious schools and are viewed unfavorably by many employers.  A degree from an online law school would not permit you to be admitted to the bar in the United States (in most states) and would significantly limit your employment opportunities.

If, on the other hand, you wish to pursue a paralegal degree, there are some reputable online institutions that offer distance learning opportunities.  For guidance on choosing an online school, see:

You mention that you have information technology experience.  Some of the hottest legal career opportunities exist for those with IT experience.  Jobs for litigation support and e-discovery professionals have doubled in the past year.
