Careers: Medical & Psychiatry/Med School

Question
This is a long shot and I am almost afraid of your answer! I am 48 years old. I was an LVN for 20 years and changed careers 10 years ago due to a shoulder injury. I have been a successful mortgage broker for 8 years, up until the recent economy challenges. What I enjoyed the very most about this career was my opportunity to help others.
I find that I miss my involvement in the medical field and would like to go back. I wonder if, at my age, it is just a ridiculous thought to consider med school. I would have to, of course, start from scratch. As my children are all college age or older and I have the financial means to support this type of undertaking, my age and perhaps a few crystallized brain cells, is my paramount concern. I suppose I could also consider a late life career as a nurse practitioner. What are your thoughts on this?
Sure do appreciate your time and consideration.
