Question
Sorry for bothering you, I am doing a research project for school and I know you are a PTA but i was woundering if you could answer a few questions for me about PT. Do you know the best suited location for a PT?  and do you know if they have any Opportunities for Advancements if so what? thank you for your time

Answer
Hi Tonya,

You're not bothering me at all, don't be silly! :)

The best suited location:  Well, I'm not sure if you mean what type of facility or what part of the country, so I'll answer both.  Facility wise, most therapists either work in hospitals or in outpatient clinics.  Some work in the home health care field, while others work in nursing homes.  My personal preference (best hours and pay) is the outpatient clinic.   I think as far as location in the country, I'd have to say the far west and the northeast are the best areas right now.

Advancements:  For PTs, you can go and take tests to get certifications (specializing in pediatrics, orthopedics, neurology, etc); but as far as advancing, there is really not much room above you unless you go to school and get a degree in business so that you can manage your own clinic.  Of course, with experience, you can become a "senior staff therapist" and that means you supervise the other therapists and consult on cases.  You make more money as you have more experience.

I hope this has answered your question.  Please write back if I can clarify anything else, or if you have more questions.  Take care and good luck with your project!

Expertise

I am PTA. I can answer questions for people interested in becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant. I`m happy to discuss questions about the education required, licensure, different areas of the field, and duties that the PTA performs. I can also help with questions about the differences between PTs and PTAs roles and education. In a more general way, I can answer questions about the differences between the PT field in comparison with the Athletic Trainer field and the Occupational Therapy field.

Experience

I have been a PTA for 6 years, and was a tech for 4 years before that. I work in an out-patient orthopedic setting, but am familiar with other settings in general.
