Careers: Meteorology - Becoming a meteorologist

Expert: Jason - 2/4/2009

Question
Hey Jason.

I wanted to know if there is any way to become a meteorologist without going to collage? Maybe becoming a Junior forecaster or something? I have been told by my local meteorologist that I have a great future in Meteorology and I often talk to him over E-mail as storms are coming through and we both make our forecast! I know everybody says collage is highly recommended but is there any other way??

Anything you can say to help me would be GREAT thank you!"

Answer
You absolutely must become a meteorologist through at least a Bachelor of Sciences in Meteorology. This is undergraduate and currently the only acceptable degree to start out with. Alternately, you can become a Weather forecaster/specialist in an Associate of Sciences in Weather forecasting / General weather.
