Question Is it true if there is no ice in the upper levels of a thunder storm cell there can be no tornado development? Also why is ice related to lightning activity in the storm cell?
Answer Tornadoes have to have a certain wind shear effect. Ice development has nothing to do with it. Although, ice does form from time to time at cloud tops due to how cold it is at the tops, it never matters for tornadoes. It can be 120 degrees outside but still you will see a tornado.
