Question I've been retired for 3 years now and would like to start a new career. I'm am interested in both Meteorology and Oceanography. But I am 55 years old and by the time I got a BS in Meteorology I would be 60, and even older for a Masters in Oceanography. I personally think I would be wasting my time trying to start a career in either of these fields due to age discrimination. But I would like your opinion. What do you think? Should I just forget about it and go with one of my other ideas or would I have a chance of anyone hiring me? Thank you.
Answer You would definitely not be too old. I see it all the time. Many older people have better luck fetching a skillful research job, due to the wisdom and ability to research. Do not give up. You have a good idea, and if it is your passion...stick with it. :)
