Careers: Meteorology - SO SUNNY

Expert: Jason - 9/15/2007

Question
Would you please explain to me: why does sun burn itch?

Thanks
C Barwick

Answer
Some people are naturally "photosensitive" upon exposure to ultraviolet light. Others are susceptible to heat rashes, a cause that is totally unrelated to the UV exposure. Certain chemicals or ingredients found in most cosmetics, lotions, shampoo, and even some disinfecting agents may cause itching as well. Rashes caused by these products generally occur in localized areas on which the products were applied.
