Careers: Meteorology - clouds and fronts

Expert: Mike - 10/14/2005

Question
Why are clouds and precipitation generated along fronts?

Answer
Hello,

Fronts separate two different airmasses.  When these airmasses come together we see lift in the air allowing the generation of clouds and precipitation.  This is caused by the sharp change in temperature.

Heres a site that might help you a little bit more:

Thanks,
Mike
