Careers: Military--Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Coast Guard/AF Downsizing

Question
Howard,

I joined the AF in 2003, and they have been downsizing ever since. In your experience, is it likely that the AF will downsize too much, and begin to allow prior service members back in? The reason I ask is because I recently separated (3C051) and would like to come back in, however I realize the only way that would be possible is if they cut too many people. With my prior service time, my age limit to return to AD is 31, which gives me just under 5 years.  Just looking for your expert opinion as to whether this is a likely scenario, or not.  Thanks.

Answer
The prior service is a constantly opening and closing door. Find your local recruiter and keep checking with him e to see what the current policy is for PS. Thats the best advice that I can tell ya other than choosing a different service or perusing a federal position in that career field

The way that the Air Force is cutting folks, I doubt that they will get into a situation where they will require more Prior service, I believe that they will up recruiting numbers for the career field before they bring back others...

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!!
