Question
Howard,
Be careful what you're telling young kids.  Enlist first and get knowledge of the airframe before you become a pilot??  Enlisted guys don't become pilots.  The only ethical answer is to tell that kid to get a college degree.  And, as a degreed engineer,  I'm wondering what is an "Aeronautical Engineer".  Probably some milspeak BS that means he gets to wear headphones and clean the john.  Recruiters deserve a special place next to used car salesmen and pimps.

Answer
Bob,

Normally I wouldnt gratify this type of a response with an answer. I will say this much. I dealt with alot of un-educated folks like yourself. Enlisted can become officers, there is more to the service than just ROTC and the academy!! There are several Airman to Officer commissioning programs available to the airman now days. The Air Force is more in tune with commissioning its own from with in rather than take in a college guy. The airman doesnt have to score as high on the  Officer Entrance Exam and the college guy does....Bonus for the Airman!!

The Air Force an sa contract with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. ER has been training Air Force pilots now for the past 10 plus years!! If you doubt me...Call embry Riddle!!

ER is at every airforce installation!! so tell me again that an enlisted person can not become an aeronautical what ever he wants!!

Bob, before you start bad mouthing recruiterws....which I am not. I was and served my tour as one very sucessfully and to defend my character as a prior recruiter....I never placed an applicant into the Air Force under false pretenses. I had no reason to and nor would I even entertain the idea of doing so.

I will agree that there are some recruiters out there that are in the linup of car sales man and pimps so to speak, but I sir am not in that catergory and never was. Please do YOUR homework before questioning my integrity.

If you are planning on joining the military, your number 1 decision factor in making this kind of move is that you need to be more concerned about serving your country than your country serving you!! All the benefits are the best that you can find. Education is at a premium right now and its the most rewarding thing that you can do.
