Question
I was recently interested in enlisting into the marines, and while i have my g.e.d., I scored a 73 on the asvab, completed my IPT, and I completed and passed all the stations at M.E.Ps, I was Medically disqualified from joining the marines because i was diagnosed with adhd, however (while never being diagnosed with bipolar), my papers said it was questionable at the time of 7 years of age so the doctor at the station point blank looked at me in the face and told me that i was bipolar and thats the end of the case (the papers my recruiter gave him never said i was bipolar, just that there was a possibility) . I was wondering if there is anything that i can do to help my chances of getting in to the marine corps at this time, as they have already sent my file to the bureau of medicine and they also disqualified it also. thank you for your time sir.

Answer
William:

If BuMed has DQ'd you, then, no, that's pretty much it.  You *might* try and have your regular doctor (esp. if it's the same doctor who originally diagnosed and treated you) attest to the fact that you are no longer ADHD or bi-polar.  You might also try to get other civilian doctors to state the same thing.    However, it's going to be a long uphill battle, because once BuMed says 'no' that's usually it unless you can present them with overwhelming evidence to the contrary.  Sorry.

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
