Question
Jason,
I am planning in joining the British royal navy to be a Marine Engineering officer and have already got my application in the 'pipe line'. However during a visit to HMS Bristol, I had a presentation on the SBS, Special boat Service and fell completely mesmerized by what they do, it was exactly what I wanted to do.
After that I did some research and have found out very few about the arm of the navy, only that they are publicized about very rarely. I understand that in order to join, you need to be extremely fit and I was wondering whether you could tell me, the physical training that the Navy Seals in the US undertake as it would at least build me up physically, i already have quite good physical fitness as i play rugby three times a week, swim regularly and am a regular in my local gym.
Many thanks, Greg.

Answer
Greg:

This one is way out of my league for sure.  However, I have seen SEAL types of workout programs (a search engine for something like SEAL PT or SEAL workout would probably locate them) advertised.   The biggest thing, however, will likely be a combination of endurance, and 'heart', meaning the ability to 'gut it out' whatever 'it' is.  You sound like you are in pretty good shape at this point, but I'd look for endurance type things to work on.  Just my 2 cents at this point, hopefully, it will be of some small help. Good luck!

Jason

Expertise

Questions relating to US Marine Corps; rank, awards, uniforms, career choices. I can also help people spot and expose fakes (people pretending to be Marines or have awards they didn`t earn). Considering the Marines as a career? Or another branch, like the Air National Guard? Drop me a line. HOWever..know that I am NOT a recruiter. I can offer my expert opinion and advice, but can't (and won't) over rule what a recruiter says, they are the 'on duty' expert.
